If there is one city where you can taste the best ice cream in Italy, it is Florence. According to the legend, it would be in the capital of Tuscany that the famous gelato was born. But in this city, you will find at least one ice cream shop per street. Often even three or four. So how to choose? Here are three ice cream shops in Florence where you will be sure to enjoy yourself!

Vivoli, the institution

Here we are in the holy of holies of Italian ice cream. Vivoli is the oldest ice cream shop in Florence, founded in 1929, a few steps from the church of Santa Croce. In the past, the owners used to bring ice from the mountains to make their famous ice cream. Now they don’t just make ice cream (the most delicious in the city, in our opinion) but also offer delicious pastries and good coffee.

Vivoli | Via Dell’Isola delle Stinche, 7r Florence

Gelateria de’ Neri, inventiveness above all

You don’t have to go too far from Vivoli to find our second best gelateria in Florence. Here, too, the name has been around for a long time, but Gelateria de’ Neri stands out for the inventiveness of its creations.

Gelateria dei Neri | Via dei Neri 9/10r, Florence

Gelateria la Carraia, simplicity and efficiency

Last favourite among the ice cream shops in Florence, Gelateria la Carraia. You have to go to the south bank of the Arno, along the river, to find something simple but devilishly effective in terms of taste. This ice cream parlour focuses on the basics, such as chocolate, and sometimes dares to be a little eccentric. And the low prices only accentuate the pleasure of the taste buds!
