Indeed, a cancelled flight is also not trivial for the airline responsible. How can you get refunded and compensated when your flight is cancelled? According to the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/europa.eu\/youreurope\/citizens\/travel\/passenger-rights\/air\/index_fr.htm#reimbursement-delay-1\" data-penci-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">European Commission&#8217;s website<\/a><\/strong>, these rules apply:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If your flight takes place <strong>within the EU<\/strong>, operated by an <strong>airline established in the EU or outside of the EU<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your flight departs <strong>from an EU airport heading to a non-EU country<\/strong>, operated by an airline established <strong>in the EU or outside of the EU<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your flight&nbsp;<strong>arrives in the EU<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;from a non-EU country and is operated&nbsp;<strong>by an EU airline<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If&nbsp;<strong>you have not already received benefits<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;(compensation, re-routing or airline assistance), in accordance with the applicable law of a non-EU country, for flight-related problems during the relevant trip.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note<\/strong>: Return flights are always considered as two separate flights, even if they are part of the same booking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cancellation of my flight: what are my rights?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If your flight is cancelled, you are entitled to various supports from the responsible airline. You can choose between:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Being offered a <strong>new flight to your final destination<\/strong> under the same transport conditions (this is important).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A <strong>refund of your ticket<\/strong> if you decide not to travel, including support for the return journey if you are in transit.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While waiting for your replacement flight or being rerouted to your departure airport, the airline responsible for your journey has the duty to take care of you, providing you with meals and allowing you to communicate (two calls, two SMS or two emails).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can also claim compensation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul id=\"block-085f0076-da3a-44c0-9874-043e5e0d77c5\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\ud83d\udcb6&nbsp;<strong>\u20ac250<\/strong>&nbsp;for a flight of&nbsp;<strong>less than 1500 kilometers<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\ud83d\udcb6&nbsp;<strong>\u20ac400<\/strong>&nbsp;for a flight between&nbsp;<strong>1500 and 3500 km<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\ud83d\udcb6&nbsp;<strong>\u20ac600<\/strong>&nbsp;for a flight&nbsp;<strong>beyond 3,500 km<\/strong>&nbsp;, provided you are at least&nbsp;<strong>4 hours late<\/strong>&nbsp;(\u20ac300 for a delay between 3 and 4 hours).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, be cautious, as there are certain conditions. Indeed, you can claim compensation if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You were <strong>informed of the cancellation two weeks before departure time<\/strong> (obviously, you do not lose your money) or, in case of a shorter period, if a seat is offered on another flight close to the original schedule.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The airline proves that the cancellation is <strong>due to extraordinary circumstances<\/strong> that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken (read above).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What is an exceptional circumstance?<\/strong> Here is what Regulation <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/LexUriServ\/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32004R0261:FR:HTML\" data-penci-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\">(EC) No 261\/2004<\/a><\/strong> of the Parliament, which establishes community rules for compensation, states: \u201cThe obligations of effective air carriers should be limited, or their liability exempted in cases where an event is due to extraordinary circumstances which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken. In France, it&#8217;s the Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGAC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When to contact the DGAC?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If the flight that experienced the incident departed from France, regardless of your final destination and the nationality of the airline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the flight that experienced the incident arrived in France and originated from a country other than a member state of the European Union, Norway, Iceland, or Switzerland, provided that the effective carrier belongs to the European Union, Norway, Iceland, or Switzerland.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udcd1 To report a dispute, go to&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/droits-passagers-aeriens.aviation-civile.gouv.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-penci-link=\"external\">the DGAC website<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cancelled flight: opting for a specialized site to get compensated<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Online, there are many companies offering to secure compensation for you in case of your flight cancellation, but there are a few heavyweights in the sector with significant teams of lawyers.
