A staple of Spanish cuisine, tapas are dishes made up of one or more ingredients which are served in small portions and shared with several people. They are often recipes typical to Spanish cuisine, made with fish and seafood, cold cuts, Iberian cheeses and vegetables. From “tortillas” to plates of Iberian ham, accompanied by the famous “patatas bravas” or traditional Catalan recipes such as “pan con tomate”, the restaurants and tapas bars in Barcelona offer a varied choice. Here is a selection of the best places to eat tapas in Barcelona

🍨 Delights of Europe. We have a whole series of articles dedicated to European culinary specialities. For example, here is where to find the best ice cream shops in Florence.

Taller de Tapas

This chain of restaurants is present all over Barcelona and it has two restaurants in the old town. The Taller de Tapas is very popular with locals and tourists alike, thanks to its very varied tapas menu, its excellent wine and beer list, and its choice of quality ingredients. For example, the fish comes straight from the stalls in the Boquería market and is always served fresh.

La Cervecería Catalana

This restaurant, located a stone’s throw from Passeig de Gracia, also enjoys an excellent reputation, so much so that from a certain time in the evening there is always a queue to enter. La Cervecería Catalana offers excellent service, great value for money and, above all, a wide choice of tapas made according to traditional Spanish and Catalan recipes. You can taste all the traditional dishes of the region, including dessert, since the restaurant offers a very good Catalan cream.

The Boquería Market

Although it is very touristy, the Boquería market is not to be missed during a visit to Barcelona, if only for its atmosphere and its wide choice of fresh and traditional products. While shopping around, indulge yat one of the tapas bars on the market. Quim is the oldest bar in La Boquería and it offers a wide choice of affordable traditional tapas, such as Padrón peppers and croquettes, made on site and with typical ingredients such as Iberian ham.

Quimet & Quimet

Quimet & Quimet is one of the best places to eat tapas in Barcelona. Since its opening in 1914, this family-run bar in the Poble Sec district has built up a very good reputation. To accompany a wide choice of creative tapas made with high quality ingredients, the restaurant offers a diverse menu of alcoholic drinks such as house vermouth or craft beer brewed on site. One of the advantages of this establishment is its friendly and relaxed atmosphere: the restaurant is very small and often very busy, so you may eat standing at the counter like in an authentic tapas bar!

Cal Pep

This tapas bar located in the Born district is very popular with locals and tourists alike, and it is not uncommon for there to be a line at the entrance. The advantage of this restaurant is that the menu changes daily depending on the available seasonal ingredients. Above all, the seafood-based tapas are unanimously popular: not to be missed!
