📍 Where is Edinburgh Airport?

Edinburgh Airport or Edinburgh International Airport is located 12 kilometres from the city centre and has a single terminal. It was built to replace the Turnhouse Aerodrome, built in 1915 and used during the two World Wars. It is Scotland’s leading airport in terms of passenger numbers and is served by around 30 airlines.

Geographically, this airport is located west of the Scottish capital on the A8. The airport exit is halfway between the Gogar and Newbridge roundabouts, but an extensive road and rail transport network gets you from Edinburgh Airport to the city centre.

It is possible to reach Edinburgh city centre from Edinburgh Airport by tram, thanks to… the only line the city has. It connects York Place, in the city centre, to the airport.

This is by far the easiest and most convenient way to get around, taking only about 38 minutes. The Edinburgh Tram is available daily between 5am and 12am, and departs every 10 minutes. For the return, you will find several stops in the New Town district, facing the old town, including one in Saint-Andrew Square.

Tickets are available from the vending machine at the stops and on the trams themselves.

🚌 How do you get from Edinburgh Airport to the city centre by bus?

Taking the bus is also a good option to reach the city centre of the Scottish capital from the airport.

The simplest route? Take the Airlink Express bus 100. This is the company with the most public transport connections in the whole city. The 100 in question specifically provides the route between the airport and the city centre. It is operational 24 hours a day and runs every 10 minutes. However, this is reduced to every 30 minutes during the night and in the early morning.

Among the various buses that make this route, the Airlink 100 bus is the most reliable, cheapest, and most convenient. The journey time between Edinburgh Airport and its terminus at Waverley station is approximately 40 minutes.

There are also Lothian Buses. During the day, bus 35 – or bus N22 at dawn – provide the connection between the airport and the centre of the city.

🚗 How do you get from Edinburgh Airport to the city centre by car?

Nothing is more convenient, faster, or more expensive than travelling from Edinburgh airport to the city centre by car.

By hiring a taxi or a VTC, the average price of which varies between 23 and 35 euros per trip, you are sure to arrive at your hotel as quickly as possible. You can book on the internet or through the various applications (Uber, Bolt, etc.) or call 0844 448 8576. The average journey time is about 25 minutes.
